The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) COP16 will be held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1. UN Women will call for intensified efforts to achieve a world at peace with nature, combating gender inequality and ensuring the full, meaningful and equal participation and leadership of women and girls in biodiversity conservation.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP29 will be held in Baku (Azerbaijan) from November 11 to 24. UN Women will promote the need for gender-responsive transitions away from fossil fuel dependence, work to ensure that women and girls are included in climate adaptation and mitigation programs and projects, and push for gender-responsive climate finance. COP29’s Gender Day will take place on 21 November and will feature a high-level event on gender equality, transparency and accountability.
And from December 2 to 13, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP16 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. There, UN Women will advocate for women’s land rights as key to a gendered response to drought and land degradation.
At all three conferences, UN Women will work to integrate gender equality considerations into negotiations and decisions and to ensure that the rights of women and girls shape all policies and programs on biodiversity, climate change and desertification.
