Silent Hill 2 Remake is a game filled with mysteries and puzzles but one player went above and beyond by cracking the code to a conundrum that most fans didn’t even notice. As James makes his way through the titular town, he’ll be able to collect various photographs of enigmatic scenes with even more bizarre captions. It’s easy to assume that these collectibles are just a means of adding some flavor to the overall atmosphere of Silent Hill, but in reality, they confirm a horrifying fact about James’ story.
Posting to Reddit, user DaleRobinson cracked the hidden code of Silent Hill 2‘s photographs by figuring out a complicated cipher: Counting the primary objects of every image and pairing that number with the captions provides the sentence “YOU’VE BEEN HERE FOR TWO DECADES.”
Bloober Team has yet to officially comment on the discovery but the likelihood of this being unintentional seems impossible. The community was suitably awestruck by the discovery, commending DaleRobinson for noticing and solving a puzzle that sailed right over most players’ heads.
Silent Hill Is Filled With Secrets
It’s A Town With Many Things To Hide
The discovery of the secret message in Silent Hill 2 Remake further reinforces the game’s quality and shows a clear example of Bloober Team going above and beyond to provide fans with a uniquely captivating experience. While this is probably the most elaborate secret in the game, the player base is undoubtedly scouring the town for even more hidden puzzles. Of course, Silent Hill is known for being an enigmatic franchise to such an extent that even its promotional material hides messages.
In the teaser trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill: Townsfall, viewers were quick to figure out some interesting tidbits about the footage. One fan converted the video into an m4a file and placed it into the audio processing program Audacity, discovering text that read “Whatever heart this town had has now stopped.” Further fuel was added to the hype fire when publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer No Code shared similar but slightly different images of an obscured house; Users figured out that they featured Morse code that read “I don’t know how to leave.”
