Madrid had a golden opportunity to equalize the score when Lucas Vazquez was brought down in the penalty box. However, Kylian Mbappé missed the penalty after his shot was saved by Kelleher. This opportunity was a turning point, because a few moments later, Mohamed Salah also failed to take advantage of Liverpool’s penalty.
Liverpool finally doubled their lead through Cody Gakpo’s header from a corner kick in the 77th minute. Madrid were unable to provide a meaningful response, even their star, Mbappe, who was expected to be the difference, seemed to have difficulty in dealing with Liverpool’s defence.
