Once you catch a Kubfu in The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, you have a chance to evolve the Pokémon into two different evolutionary forms of the creature Urshifu. The Fighting-type evolution is one of the most powerful pocket monsters you can have on your team. This strong fighter from Pokémon Sword & Shield‘s Isle of Armor expansion can only be obtained with the right items.
You can evolve two types of Urshifu from Kubfu: Single Strike Style Urshifu or Rapid Strike Style Urshifu. The Scroll of Darkness item turns Kubfu into the Single Strike variant, and the Scroll of Waters creates the Rapid Strike version. Ordinarily, these Scrolls were obtained through Battle Towers, but there is a different method for getting them in the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
You can catch a Kubfu for evolution by
completing 10 solo Blueberry quests
in
The Indigo Disk
DLC, then getting a Kubfu Treat to lure the Pokémon to the Fury Falls area of the map.
Attend An Auction With Kubfu On Your Team
The Scroll of Darkness can be bought at the auction marketplace of Porto Marinada in Area Two of the West Province of the Paldea Region. Buying The Indigo Disk DLC puts the Scroll in a special auction you can attend if you have Kubfu on your team. The object sold at Porto Marinada is random, but you have a better chance of encountering the Scroll if you have a Kubfu in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Do This First In Indigo Disk DLC If You Want A New Pokémon ASAP
There are several new Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC, but getting Hydrapple can be a lot easier if one fight is completed first.
Make sure you have enough money to purchase the Scroll of Darkness, then use it on Kubfu to evolve the Pokémon into a Dark-/Fighting-type Urshifu. This single-strike style Urshifu can be beneficial against the strongest trainers in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s DLC.
Keep Trying To Auction For The Item You Want
The Scroll of Waters is also found at the Porto Marinada auction in the same way as the Scroll of Darkness in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Once again, it would help to have Kubfu in your active party to increase the likelihood of either Scroll’s appearance. The Rapid Strike Style Water-/Fighting-type Urshifu, which evolves from the Scroll of Waters, is a Legendary Pokémon that can easily defeat many opponents.
You cannot evolve any Kubfu holding an Everstone, even if you do show it the Scroll of Darkness or Waters. Either type of Urshifu does extra damage with moves tied to the unique dual typings it has. For example, Rapid Strike Urshifu has a Same Type Attack Bonus (S.T.A.B.) whenever it uses a Fighting or Water-type attack against another Pokémon.
Which Evolution Is Better
Choose Between Two Powerful Legendaries
Both types of Urshifu are extremely strong Legendary Pokémon, especially when they are given good Tera types in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Overall, Single Strike Urshifu has fewer weaknesses, as its Dark and Fighting-types make it only weak to Flying, Fairy, and, ironically, other Fighting-types. Meanwhile, Rapid Strike Urshifu has more vulnerabilities, including Grass, Electric, and Psychic-type attacks.
Both types of Urshifu are considered powerful Pokémon mainly due to their unique
Unseen Fist
ability. This trait lets Urshifu’s moves
hit through Protect or Detect
, allowing you to always attack another Pokémon using physical attacks.
Personally, I would choose the Single Strike Urshifu, as it can act as a pure Attack Pokémon capable of countering the aces of other trainers. While a Water and Fighting-type like Rapid Strike Urshifu has more favorable type match-ups, Single Strike Urshifu has fewer bad match-ups of its own. This allows the Pokémon to be more versatile in fights, allowing it to become a mainstay on a team rather than a rare specialist.

Each Urshifu has different pros and cons, so there is no “wrong” choice between either Legendary Pokémon. Those that evolve Kubfu into either form of Urshifu will have an influential team member in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s Indigo Disk DLC that has the skills to challenge even the toughest trainers.
