Unlike the Divine Towers of Liurnia or Caelid in Elden Ring, the Isolated Divine Tower is not connected to any major landmass. True to its name, the tower sits secluded on a small island in the sea north of Dragonburrow, south of the Mountaintops of Giants. Many travelers may find reaching this Tower quite tedious, as they must fight through several high-level enemies to reach the area’s Sending Gate.
To reach the Isolated Divine Tower, Tarnished must use the Sending Gate on the Divine Bridge in Leyndell, Royal Capital. Fortunately, there is an alternate route using the Transporter Trap Chest atop the Tower of Return. Adventurers can arrive at this location by traveling southeast from the Isolated Merchant’s Shack in the Weeping Peninsula. This portal will send you to the Divine Bridge Grace Site, allowing you to bypass enemies.
What Is At The Isolated Divine Tower?
Gain A Permanent Buff For Your Character
The Isolated Divine Tower contains a permanent buff to your character through the activation of a Great Rune. Great Runes are obtained from powerful bosses in Elden Ring, mainly from the main ones you defeat throughout the game’s primary storyline. However, Great Rune effects go away after you die, unless you use a specific consumable item to reactivate its effect.
The Great Rune located in the Isolated Divine Tower belongs to Malenia, the Scarlet-ridden Demigod of Elphael and Brace of the Haligtree. Malenia, Blade of Miquella, is one of the hardest bosses in the game, not only to fight but to reach as well. This powerful warrior is located in a castle built within Miquella’s Haligtree in Elden Ring, a secret region that takes multiple steps to enter.
Miquella’s Haligtree is considered an endgame area in the game, so you should be at least between Levels 120 and 150 before reaching this area. The bosses and enemies in this region are among the toughest in the game, excluding those in the
Shadow of the Erdtree
DLC.
By activating the Great Rune at Isolated Divine Tower, your Elden Ring character’s combat style changes to resemble Bloodborne, featuring faster strikes and more aggressive combat. You also partially heal the damage you’ve taken when you land attacks, reducing the number of Flasks you have to drink to stay alive. These homages to Bloodborne change how you play, making Malenia’s Great Rune one of the most interesting of the six total in the game.
How To Get Malenia’s Great Rune
Discover The Path Through The Haligtree
The only way to reach the Isolated Divine Tower is to first discover Malenia by collecting the two halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. After doing this, you’ll need to activate the hidden mechanism in the Grand Lift of Rold to access the Hidden Path to the Haligtree, which leads to the Consecrated Snowfield.
Once you’ve done this, travel further north to Ordina, Liturgical Town, and complete the Evergaol puzzle to enter the Miquella’s Haligtree Portal. When your Tarnished arrives in Haligtree, they must first brave through the winding branches of the canopy before reaching Elphael. The region is full of formidable foes, such as the mandatory Field Boss Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree.
Loretta is similar to the Tree Sentinel and other horse-mounted bosses you’ve faced in Elden Ring before. However, this is one fight where you can’t call upon Torrent, making this an uphill fight that can be quite difficult. Make sure to dodge Loretta’s attacks carefully and watch out for the magic she casts from afar, as the Knight uses sorcery spells to create spectral swords and empower their unique polearm weapon.
One of the best ways to defeat Loretta is to break her poise using jump attacks, which can stagger the boss open for a visceral attack for tons of damage.
When adventurers make it to the Roots of the Haligtree, they can challenge Malenia in one of the most brutal boss fights in Elden Ring. It is highly recommended that you face Malenia with other summoned players or prepare an upgraded Spirit Ashes Summon beforehand. Once you complete the monumental task of defeating the Goddess of Rot, you can triumphantly return to the Isolated Divine Tower.
How To Reach The Isolated Divine Tower
Go Back Through The Sending Gate Or Teleportation Trap
When you defeat Malenia and take her Great Rune, you can go back to the Isolated Divine Tower through the Divine Bridge Sending Gate. Going back to Leyndell or using the Tower of Return’s teleportation trap are both easy ways to get back to the Gate. With the Site of Grace right outside Malenia’s boss room, you can easily go back to a place close to either of these locations.
Interacting with the Great Rune will restore it, allowing you to apply its changes immediately. You can switch between the effects of restored Great Runes at any time, so you do not need to have Malenia’s activated at all times. Once you get to the Isolated Divine Tower in Elden Ring, you do not have to return, as the Great Runes you’ve restored can be equipped from your inventory from this point forward.
