The first polling stations abroad for the 2024 parliamentary elections are already open in Auckland, New Zealand, on Friday at 20:00 (Romanian time) and 07:00 local time. In this election, Romanians in the diaspora have two days to vote: Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1. They elect the parliamentarians who represent the diaspora in the Romanian Parliament for the next four years (two senators and four deputies).
The next countries where voting will open for voting for Romanians in the diaspora will be: Japan, Australia, Cyprus, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Switzerland.
The Permanent Electoral Authority states that for this electoral process, 18,968 polling stations will be organized on the territory of Romania, and 950 polling stations abroad.
Parliamentary elections 2024. Two days of voting in the diaspora
While in Romania, the vote for the parliamentary elections of 2024 will take place on one day, Sunday, December 1, the diaspora can vote on two days – Saturday and Sunday.
Voting starts at 07:00 local time on Saturday and Sunday and ends at 21:00. However, if there are citizens who have not come to vote, the president of the polling office can decide to extend the vote until the last votes, but not later than 23:59, when the system will be closed for 2024. parliamentary elections.
In the 2024 parliamentary elections abroad, voters who show up at the polling stations and prove that they have their domicile or residence abroad can vote in any station.
Parliamentary elections 2024. What documents do citizens of the diaspora need to vote
In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Romanian citizens residing abroad can exercise their right to vote in polling stations organized abroad, based on one of the following identity documents:
- the simple passport, with the mention of the country of residence;
- the simple temporary passport, with the mention of the country of residence;
- the simple electronic passport, with the mention of the country of residence.
In the parliamentary elections of 2024, voters residing abroad will be able to vote on the basis of a Romanian identity document and a document issued by foreign authorities, which proves the legal right to stay in power abroad for more than 90 days, such as:
- identity card, electronic identity card,
- temporary identity card; identity card; diplomatic passport,
- electronic diplomatic passport
- service passport,
- electronic service passport
- simple passport, simple electronic passport, simple temporary passport.
