Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ultimate Spider-Man #11Following the latest issue of Ultimate Spider-Man, I now need Mister Negative to be in the MCU as soon as possible. Having become a breakout villain in Sony’s Spider-Man games for Playstation, Martin Li has never had a bigger spotlight than the one he’s had in the last few years. While that spotlight is even bigger thanks to the Ultimate Universe, I really want it to get even bigger with a live-action MCU debut for the iconic New York-based supervillain.
As seen in Marvel’s new Ultimate Spider-Man #11 by Jonathan Hickman and David Messina, Spider-Man encounters Mister Negative for the first time. One of Wilson Fisk’s lieutenants that make up the Ultimate Universe’s Sinister Six, Mister Negative helps run New York with his gang known as the Demons, mirroring the Mister Negative of the main Marvel Universe (Earth-616). However, this new version of Spider-Man’s Mister Negative makes me want an MCU version even more than I already did.
Ultimate Spider-Man Just Had His First Confrontation With Mister Negative
And He’s Somehow Even Cooler
Previously, Spider-Man and Harry Osborn’s Green Goblin took down Walter Hardy’s Black Cat (which inadvertently left him in a wheelchair). Now, Spider-Man finds himself facing the next Sinister Six lieutenant on his own in Ultimate Spider-Man #11: Martin Li’s Mister Negative and his Demon gang. Intervening during a bank robbery, Spider-Man quickly takes down several of Negative’s men before the supervillain makes his presence known, debuting his new style with an impressive man-bun and beard combo, which I personally feel is a significant and more modern improvement on the character’s design in the main Marvel Universe.

Spider-Man Is Officially Earth’s Most Important Hero, as New Ultimate Continuity Debuts Essential Lore
With one essential scene, Marvels’ Ultimate Universe confirms what fans have known for a long time: Spider-Man is the most important hero – ever.
That said, The Ultimate version of Mister Negative still carries his signature photographic negative aesthetic. The black and white coloring is the result of Li’s unique powers which are presumably still sourced from Darkforce energy as with the original Martin Li of Earth-616. As such, it’s very cool to see this new reimagining of the classic Marvel supervillain, a new iteration of Mister Negative I could easily see debuting in live-action within the MCU.
Mister Negative Is A True Force To Be Reckoned With
There’s So Much Potential For An MCU Debut
Knowing he wouldn’t be able to defeat Spider-Man on his own, Mister Negative corrupts the minds of all the nearby bystanders to attack and keep the Websllinger busy while he makes his exit with the rest of his still-standing Demons. It’s a very smart move, one that proves Negative acknowledges his limitations as well as the strengths of his opponents. Li was also able to sense that Spider-Man’s willpower was too great for him to ever be corrupted, another reason for his tactical retreat.
To that end, Mister Negative forcing Spider-Man to contend with innocent bystanders trying to rip him apart is quite an ingenious play, one that points to the vast potential Mister Negative has to be an incredible MCU villain for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Even as his fellow Sinister Six members are baffled as to why he just left Spider-Man and didn’t finish the job, Negative remains cool, calm, and collected. He knows what Spider-Man is capable of, and as such is content to wait until the most opportune moment to truly strike at the Webslinger.
After The Comics And Video Games, When Will We See Mister Negative In The Movies?
He’d Be A Perfect Spider-Man 4 Villain
While Ultimate Spider-Man’s Mister Negative certainly wins style points, the version of Martin Li seen in Sony’s Spider-Man games is just as compelling and quite a force to be reckoned with, just like the original Negative who hails from Earth-616. As such, seeing Mister Negative in the MCU feels like a no-brainer to me. While Mister Negative has some pretty incredible powers that are sourced from another dimension, he’s also more of a grounded street-level villain as a New York gang leader.
“It’s going to be very exciting to see Spider-Man’s inevitable rematch with Mister Negative in the issues of
Ultimate Spider-Man
that are still to come…”
Keeping that in mind, Mister Negative essentially embodies the best of both worlds when it comes to Spider-Man stories. He’d be quite a versatile MCU villain with all kinds of compelling arcs and unique arcs that could be depicted on-screen. At any rate, it’s going to be very exciting to see Spider-Man’s inevitable rematch with Mister Negative in the issues of Ultimate Spider-Man that are still to come.
Ultimate Spider-Man #11 is now on sale from Marvel Comics.
