The Central Electoral Office (BEC) rejected, on Friday, the request of the Justice and Respect in Europe for All Party (DREPT) to cancel the parliamentary elections, arguing that the party’s request was formulated late.
“Analyzing with priority the observance of the legal term for the formulation of the request to cancel the election, the Central Electoral Office finds that the request is formulated late, the petitioner is deprived of the right to formulate this request”, according to the decision of the court. The request to cancel the election, according to law 208/2015, can only be made by the electoral contestants who participated in the elections, in more than 40 hours from the end of the vote, under the penalty of forfeiture, and the request must be well motivated and accompanied by the evidence on which it is based, citing the same source.
“The Central Electoral Office notes that the cancellation request was made on 05.12.2024, at 22:55, being sent to the e-mail address of the office and registered on 06.12.2024. Consequently, the Central Electoral Office finds that the party “Rights and respect in Europe for all” DREPT is deprived of the right to formulate the request of annulment of the election, which was formulated late”, the decision of BEC.

The leader of the DREPT party, Vlad Gheorghe, said on Friday that he asked for the cancellation of the parliamentary elections, because they are also organized under the banner of “hybrid war”.
“The DREPT party presents a request to the High Court of Cassation and Justice to cancel the parliamentary elections. Since the involvement of Russia has been officially recognized, it must be recognized throughout the electoral cycle. We want free and fair elections!” , first wrote Alexandrescu on Facebook.
The DREPT party did not pass the electoral threshold to win a seat in the Parliament, obtaining a score of 1.24% of the votes.
