According to the press release sent by the far-right candidate’s team, Georgescu “believes that it is the right of Romanians to be in front of the polling stations tomorrow, to wait to be received, to wait that democracy wins because of its power. Georgescu attacks CCR in the foreign press and calls on BEC and AEP not to respect the decision to cancel the election.
Previously, Călin Georgescu said in an interview for Sky News that a was the victim of a “coup d’état” who exposed Romania’s “corrupt regimes” and the CCR is a “mafia court” and was pressured to cancel the elections by a group of European Union and NATO countries that intended to undermine democracy, because of his desire to maintain the war in Ukraine.
Let’s remember that The CCR decided on Friday to cancel the presidential electiontwo days before the 2nd round of voting.
In justifying its decision to cancel the presidential election, published on Friday evening, the Constitutional Court shows that the freedom of voters to form an opinion presupposes the right to obtain correct information about the candidates, so that the interference of state or non-state entities in the implementation of electoral propaganda or disinformation campaigns must be excluded.
At the same time, after the cancellation of the elections Călin Georgescu made the BEC and the AEP to “respect democracy” and let “voting continue”because the decision of the CCR to cancel the presidential election, although it is mandatory, “there is no sanction for its non-implementation”.
The Central Electoral Office (BEC) announced, on Friday evening, that it adopted a decision for which voting operations and those preparing to vote in polling stations abroad will stop immediately. At the same time, the preparation of the vote in the polling stations in the country will stop and the operational activity in the computer applications used is suspended.
