Apple TV+’s newest adaptation of The Buccaneers has already impressed in its first outing, and here’s what we know about the second season. Based on the eponymous Edith Wharton novel which was published posthumously, the story follows a group of American women during the 1870s who travel to England in order to secure wealthy husbands. Intentionally anachronistic and playful, The Buccaneers used Wharton’s novel as a framework for yet another period dramedy. The clash of cultures takes center stage, and it offers commentary on the repressive elements of contemporary culture.
Throughout its first season, The Buccaneers has received high marks from critics who praised its over-the-top and anachronistic execution, and its feminist message (via Rotten Tomatoes). Despite its critical success and its obvious originality, The Buccaneers lives in the shadow of shows like Bridgerton which helped to spearhead the modern period piece movement that has focused on rewriting history through playful inaccuracy. Nevertheless, the possibility of The Buccaneers season 2 opens the door for the series to blaze its own trail, and establish itself as separate from the aforementioned Netflix mega-hit.

The Historical Drama Returns For Season 2

The announcement wasn’t matched by any other details about the upcoming season, but more episodes are on the way.

The Buccaneers Season 2 Cast
The Ensemble Will Return With New Faces As Well
Since The Buccaneers is an ensemble story, the cast won’t change much from season to season except for new additions. Therefore, it is highly likely that the main cast of the series will return for the second go around, meaning stars like Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), who plays Mrs. St. George, will be making a comeback. Likewise, the American girls will have to return en masse because the first season barely scratched the surface of their ongoing quest for love and money.
Though nothing is known about any of the newcomers so far, the expanded cast suggests that season 2 of

The Buccaneers Season 2 Story Details
What Will Happen When The Americans Return?
The conclusion of The Buccaneers season 1 was anything but, and season 2’s plot will have a lot to work with. First, the marriage of Nan to Theo was done out of necessity to protect her sister Jinny, but the second season will no doubt focus on the young American chafing against her new role as Duchess of Tintagel. Nan actor Kristine Froseth teased as much when she spoke about the upcoming season.
Furthermore, Nan’s search for her sister is also going to be an important part of the upcoming episodes, as family bonds are put over the girls’ original aims. Jinny’s pregnancy will most likely also play an important role in The Buccaneers season 2, as the American friends’ search for love gets even more complicated when adult matters enter the equation.
