The fantasy comedy Little has dropped onto Netflix, adding another record-breaking hit to its digital library. This 2019 movie was executive produced by its young star, Marsai Martin, who plays a businessperson after she gets magically turned back into a child in the vein of Tom Hanks’ Big; the adult version of her character, an unkind woman forced to self-evaluate by these events, is played by Regina Hall. Though Martin was initially hired as the executive producer for Little, she didn’t want to stop there.
Living up to her reputation as one of Hollywood’s most ambitious young actors, Martin sought to star in the film she created alongside Hall and Issa Rae. Additionally, before starring and producing Little, Martin was primarily famous for her role as Diane Johnson on ABC’s hit sitcom Black-ish. Since Little and Black-ish, Martin has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most prominent young talents, having worked on many more films and TV shows as an actor and a producer.
Marsai Martin Became The Youngest Executive Producer In Hollywood History For 2019’s Little
The 14-Year-Old Marsai Martin Set A World Record As A Hollywood EP
With her work on this age-changing comedy film, Martin set a new world record by becoming the youngest executive producer in Hollywood history. Martin’s groundbreaking achievement as Little‘s 14-year-old executive producer has been listed in Guinness World Records. The only person who has come close to breaking Martin’s record is actress Millie Bobby Brown when she produced Enola Holmes at age 16. When Martin learned that she would be included in the 2021 edition of Guinness World Records, she released this statement to express her gratitude:
“I was very shocked for sure. For me, I could have never imagined being a part of something like this. I am so beyond grateful to be a part of it.”
According to Guinness World Records, Martin was the one who came up with the film’s premise in the first place. After telling her parents about her story idea and polishing it, she proposed the film to Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, who helped get it off the ground. And with that, Martin’s star power skyrocketed, opening the door for more opportunities in Hollywood even at such a young age.
