The mayor of the capital, Nicușor Dan, who has already received requests to run independently in the presidential elections, did not give a negative answer when he was asked if he planned to enter the race for Cotroceni after the CCR decided to cancel the election and resume the electoral process.
The repetition of the electoral process means that other candidates can register, and political sources told HotNews that a new name has appeared, which PNL, USR, but also other parties want as a candidate: Nicușor Dan.
After the Constitutional Court annulled the presidential election, former MEP Vlad Gheorghe, founder of the DREPT party, asked Nicușor Dan to run independently for the presidency of Romania and appealed to the leaders of PSD, USR, PNL and other center-right parties to support him.
In addition, many NGOs and activists propose Nicușor Dan as a presidential candidate from the pro-European parties, according to a joint statement sent on Saturday. The signatories of the initiative were formed in the European Romania Coalition, which supports the candidacy of the mayor of the capital.
Asked, Friday evening, by Observer Newsif he considered submitting a candidacy for the presidential election, Nicuşor Dan did not offer a negative answer.
“For the moment, I think everyone should do their own analysis. I haven’t thought about it until now, I will do the same analysis with my collaborators that everyone will do,” he said to the quoted source.
