After having celebrated a symbol of national unityEmmanuel Macron returns to the harsh reality of the moment: dealing with fragile alliances, determined oppositions and a Parliament in search of stability with the objective of finding a personality to join Matignon.
Before any announcement, the Head of State will receive independent deputies from the Liot group at 9 o’clock, followed by the environmentalists led by Marine Tondelier, then communists led by Fabien Roussel. On the other hand, La France insoumise refused the invitation. These meetings, scheduled for an hour each, suggest the possibility of a quick decision during the day.
However, caution remains in order: this summer, the president took 51 days to choose Michel Barnierand the designations of Gabriel Attal and Élisabeth Borne also took several weeks.
Bayrou and Braun-Pivet urged to act quickly
The pressure is strong, even in the presidential field. François Bayrou, historical ally of Emmanuel Macron, expressed his concern on Sunday for a situation that he considers unsustainable. “If I can help you get out of all this, I will,” declared by Pau.
For his part, Yaël Braun-Pivet, the president of the National Assembly, calls for quick action, believing that a new head of government must be appointed. “in the next few hours”. According to her, an alliance between the Renaissance, LR, MoDem, Horizons, Liot and PS groups could offer a stable majority in the National Assembly and neutralize the risk of censorship.
In practice, the equation is more complex. Laurent Wauquiez, president of the Republicans, recalled their conditions in Le Figaro : : “Neither LFI in the government, nor the program of the New Popular Front.” A position that makes the appointment of a socialist Prime Minister hardly credible, as requested by Olivier Faure, leader of the PS. The latter offer “reciprocal concessions” to Emmanuel Macron.
An approach that provoked the anger of La France insoumise, where Jean-Luc Mélenchon denounces a “brutal method” and accuses Olivier Faure of targeting Matignon despite his party’s low score in the 2022 presidential election (1.67%).
“We were presented with a fait accompli,” deplores the head of LFI, denouncing the “extremely brutal method” and “personal” by an Olivier Faure.
On the extreme right, the National Rally intends to exert its influence. Not invited to the Elysée, Jordan Bardella nevertheless demands an audience with the future Prime Minister to explain his priorities: purchasing power, security, immigration and proportional representation.
In parallel, Gabriel Attal continues his rise in the Renaissance. Elected general secretary of the party on Sunday, without ever mentioning the political crisis and distancing himself from Emmanuel Macron, he established himself as the leader of the Macronist camp.
