The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, spoke to Euronews about how he sees his country’s path towards EU accession.
The President of Montenegro told Euronews that he is optimistic about the country’s progress towards joining the EU by 2028 in an interview that we are broadcasting today on Radio Shuman.
Jakov Milatović, elected on a pro-EU, anti-corruption platform, pushed for reforms to meet the accession criteria. The country has opened 33 negotiation chapters, and three have been temporarily closed. The country also joined NATO in 2017.
Challenges remain, including freedom of the press, independence of the judiciary and reducing Russian influence, he said in an interview with Euronews’ Shauna Murray.
In the second segment of the podcast, we look at today’s Agriculture and Fisheries Council, where EU ministers need to make important decisions about fish quotas in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Seas.
Radio Schuman is hosted and produced by Maïa de la Baume, with journalist and production assistant Eleonora Vasques, and audio editing by David Brodheim and Georgios Leivaditis. Music by Alexandra Jas.
