Mew ex is one of the face cards for Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest expansion Mythical Island, and many players are likely trying to figure out how to build around it. Psychic Pokémon have proven dominant in Pokémon TCG Pocket thanks to strong energy support from Gardevoir. Thanks to the new Mythical Slab Trainer card, Mythical Island has only added more support for this Pokémon type. This, along with the prominence of Mew in the new set’s key art, has drawn attention to the 151st Pokémon.
There are currently a few meta builds involving Mew ex. Possibly the most powerful of these is simply the original Mewtwo ex build with Mew ex added alongside the new Trainer cards Mythical Slab and Leaf. With only one copy of Mew ex in the deck, this is still more of a Mewtwo ex build that just runs Mew ex as an additional option. A slightly more interesting – if less optimal – build is the pairing of Mew ex with Weezing to create a deck with a surprising amount of staying power.
Mew Ex Deck Cards List
Players Will Need Two Copies Of Mew Ex For This Build
At first glance, this deck looks a little weak in terms of its Pokémon’s HP. Weezing and Mew ex can be worn down quickly or suffer a one-hit knockout from some of the game’s bigger Pokémon. However, thanks to this deck’s Trainer cards – namely Koga and Budding Expeditioner – this deck has some creative ways of getting around its Pokémon’s squishiness. X Speed can also help both Mew ex and Koffing retreat for free, which will be a bit more energy efficient than picking them back up. Which is best depends on how much damage is on the Pokémon.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Call Out The Game For Its Ridiculously Unbalanced Battle Matching System
Pokémon TCG Pocket’s lack of matchmaking has been called out by fans on Reddit, who have requested developers to implement a balanced ELO system.
It’s important to note that while this appears to be a two-type deck, it should be run with Dark Energy only. When building, if the deck tries to automatically add both Psychic and Dark Energy, manually remove the Psychic Energy. While this means losing out on Mew ex’s first attack, the efficiency gained is worth it. You don’t want to get locked out of attacking with Weezing early on because the randomized Energy system keeps giving you Psychic instead of Dark.
Best Strategy To Win With a Mew Ex
This Mew Ex Build Is Centered Around Its Genome Hacking Ability
For this deck, the ideal start is to get a Koffing in the active spot and then hopefully evolve into Weezing in TCG Pocket. Weezing can tank some early damage while chipping away at the opposing Pokémon’s health with both Poison and its Tackle. While Weezing is active, Mew ex can start stacking energy, preparing for an attack. Mew ex’s Genome Hacking is capable of taking out big Pokémon like Charizard ex and Mewtwo ex since both have attacks that are higher than their own HP. This gives Mew ex an advantage over them since it doesn’t dump energy after attacking.
Once Mew is ready to attack, you can swap Weezing out using Koga. This will mean not wasting energy on Weezing’s high retreat cost, with the added benefit that Weezing can be played again with no damage counters on it.
The good thing about using Koga is that you can avoid giving up a point from having Weezing knocked out. This allows you to lose one of their Mew exs but not lose the entire battle.
Of course, Pokémon TCG Pocket doesn’t always supply you with the perfect starting hand. If forced to put Mew ex in the active spot to start, you have a few options to help keep it alive long enough to attack. One option is to swap it out for a Koffing or Weezing as soon as possible, preferably using X Speed to avoid getting behind on energy. Alternatively, if Mew ex has suffered a lot of damage, you can return it to your hand with Budding Expeditioner and then play it again fully healed.
Adding Mew Ex To A Mewtwo Ex Deck
Mew Ex Is Probably A Better Supplement Than Face Card
One downside to using Mew ex as the center of its own deck is that its Genome Hacking attack has some major weaknesses. For example, if it is going up against a Pikachu ex deck, it will do no damage since you aren’t running any Electric Pokémon on their bench. This is why adding Mew ex to an existing Mewtwo ex build can better use the card. This also saves you from needing to open too many Mythical Island packs chasing a second Mew ex.
This build allows you to take full advantage of all the support Psychic-types get while having Mewtwo ex there to compensate for Mew ex’s shortcomings. While you may have been drilling a Mewtwo ex build since Pokémon TCG Pocket came out in October, you may be sick of it at this point, it’s hard to deny how powerful it is. Adding Mew ex and new trainer cards like Mythical Slab have only helped make it more efficient and given it more weapons.
