In the world of One Piece, the Kozuki Family are the current ruling clan of Wano Country. Their crest is a bird with an orb on its chest, surrounded by four sprouts. They recently regained their position after having been ousted by a long-term alliance between the Kurozumi Family and the Beasts Pirates.
The Kozuki Family managed to break this alliance with a combination of their own secret domestic supporters, and a number of outside allies, such as various pirate crews and the Mink Tribe of Zou. At present, five members of the family are known in detail, though other relatives have been mentioned in passing.

For various reasons, these characters’ anime appearances are, at times, vastly different from their canon manga appearances.

Kozuki Oden
Daimyo of Kuri
- Debut: Chapter 920 (Manga), Episode 910 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: None
Kozuki Oden was an adventurous swordsman and the previous daimyo of Kuri. Despite being born into the powerful Kozuki family and set to inherit the title of Shogun, Oden had little regard for traditions. His charisma gained him a significant following in Wano. His most loyal allies chose to follow him and become retainers worthy of the future shogun.
Although he eventually matured into a more capable and caring leader, he still could not be contained by the borders of Wano. Oden set out to sea with the Whitebeard Pirates, even gaining the rank of division commander. After a lengthy battle and subsequent ceasefire between the Whitebeard Pirates and the Roger Pirates, Oden decided instead to join the latter’s crew, much to Whitebeard’s chagrin. Oden was present with the Roger Pirates when they discovered Laugh Tale, the One Piece, and presumably the truth of the world.

After returning to Wano, Oden discovered that Kurozumi Orochi had become shogun with Kaido’s aid. When Orochi demanded Oden’s execution, Oden died with a smile, remaining a legend among those who knew the extent of his deeds. For the two decades that followed, Oden was a maligned figure, as Orochi’s propaganda undermined his heroism and abilities as a fighter. That said, it was his memory that ultimately fanned the flames to overthrow the Kurozumi Shogunate. Oden’s son, Momonosuke, became shogun, and made efforts to undo the effects of the previous clan’s smear campaign.

Kozuki Toki
The Time-Traveling Wife
- Debut: Chapter 919 (Manga), Episode 893 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: Toki Toki no Mi
Kozuki (née Amatsuki) Toki originated from a time in the Void Century, traveling to Oden’s era with her Devil Fruit ability. Oden met Toki during a hazing ritual of Whitebeard’s. She was accosted by human traffickers, who were frightened by Oden, whose body was swollen at the time. Oden broke the challenge to aid Toki, and Whitebeard accepted the pair into the crew. Toki also spent time with the Roger Pirates before falling ill, resulting in her returning to Wano with their children and Oden’s two remaining retainers.
As Orochi hunted down the Kozuki Family and their allies, Toki made preparations to send her son, Momonosuke, into the future, another ability her Devil Fruit granted her. She then spoke of a prophecy, assuring the Kozuki Family would rise up once more to defy Orochi’s rule, before being shot dead. Although few valued her words at the time, Orochi rightfully feared the day of his undoing.

Kozuki Momonosuke
Shogun of Wano
- Debut: Chapter 684 (Manga), Episode 609 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: Artificial Copy of Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu
Kozuki Momonosuke was the eldest child and the only son of Oden and Toki, born on the Moby Dick. When Wano fell to Orochi, his mother sent him 20 years into the future alongside four retainers; Kin’emon, Kanjuro, Raizo, and Kikunojo. The five formulated a plan to take back Wano, which included recruiting Zou’s mink tribe.
Unfortunately, on the way to Zou, a series of events led to Momonosuke being transported to Punk Hazard. There, he ate a SMILE, a knock-off Zoan Devil Fruit, identical to Kaido’s. This allowed him to transform into the Azure Dragon, but with a different color scheme. He was eventually rescued by Kin’emon, who teamed up with the Straw Hat Pirates and Trafalgar D. Water Law. While traveling with the Straw Hats, Momonosuke shared a bond with Monkey D. Luffy.
Momonosuke’s allies wished to install him as the shogun after overthrowing Orochi. Unfortunately, he was kidnapped by Kanjuro, who was secretly a Kurozumi. Momonosuke was told he would be spared if he denied being Oden’s son, but he proudly declared his name, and was eventually rescued.
Momonosuke later took a more active role in defending Wano, by begging Shinobu to mature him into an adult with her Devil Fruit. She gave in, and aged him to 28, the age he would have been had he lived to the present rather than time-traveled to it. This allowed his dragon transformation to grow in size, and become a viable combat ability. After Luffy’s defeat of Kaido, Momonosuke became the shogun of Wano. Although he still has the brain of an eight-year-old, he also has the support of many of his father’s past allies.
3
Kozuki Hiyori
Oden’s Daughter
- Debut: Chapter 909 (Manga), Episode 892 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: None
Hiyori is Oden and Toki’s daughter and youngest child. Unlike her brother, she lived and aged normally. Like her brother, she received protection from Oden’s loyal retainers. Her first caretaker was Kawamatsu, a fish-man who resembled a kappa. Kawamatsu worked diligently to feed Hiyori, but she felt guilt for seeing him starve while she ate.
She was brought to Kyoshiro, a yakuza boss under Orochi. Kyoshiro was secretly another retainer of Oden’s named Denjiro, and kept Hiyori safe under the shogun’s nose. Hiyori was groomed to become an oiran, a refined courtesan distinguished by artistic skills. Under her alias, Komurasaki, Hiyori gained the admiration of her fellow performers and citizens alike.
She later came into conflict with Orochi, who disrespected her friend Toko, and eventually attacked her. Denjiro staged Hiyori’s “death” to keep the pair safe. They later came into contact with Zoro, who Hiyori gave Enma, a great grade blade her father wielded, in exchange for Zoro’s own Shusui. Hiyori and Denjiro were responsible for getting rid of Orochi, who learned of Hiyori’s true identity before his death. Hiyori’s role in the new Wano is unclear, but she was seen playing the shamisen, accompanied by Toko, during a schoolteacher’s lecture about the Battle of Onigashima.
2
Kozuki Sukiyaki
The Former Shogun of Wano
- Debut: Chapter 911 (Manga), Episode 894 (Anime)
- Devil Fruit: None
Kozuki Sukiyaki was the former daimyo of Wano, and Oden’s father. Sukiyaki was at first one of many disapproving presences in Oden’s life, and exiled Oden from the Flower Capital. However, after Oden brought order to the lawless region of Kuri, he grew to respect his son. Sukiyaki did not get to talk to his son before Oden’s assassination, and was ashamed that the conspiracy to take over Wano had succeeded. He fled the capital to live as a hermit under the alias Tenguyama Hitetsu.
He acted as a mentor and surrogate father to a kunoichi-in-training named Tama, seemingly unaware of her connection to the Kurozumi family. Sukiyaki was also a swordsmith of some renown, who forged meito, or famous blades. He displays a great knowledge of meito, and is able to discuss them in great detail with Roronoa Zoro. He can also read poneglyphs, and write their language.

Other Relatives
Oden’s Ancestors
The Kozuki Family is credited with creating the poneglyphs and their language near the end of the Void Century. Oden was the last known descendant to have this ability. They have historical ties with the Mink Tribe of Zou, which led Inuarashi and Nekomamushi to travel to Wano as young children, where they became retainers of Kozuki Oden.
In addition to the Amatsuki Family, other distant ancestors of the Kozuki clan include Kotetsu, a swordsmith who created Sukiyaki’s cursed katana, the Nidai Kitetsu. The family was historically allied with the Shimotsuki Family. A few of their present day relatives, such as Yasuie, his adopted daughter Toko, and Roronoa Zoro (whose grandmother was a Shimotsuki), aid them in the effort to restore the Kozuki clan to power.
As the poneglyphs become a more focal point of the story, the Kozuki Family’s motives for creating them will likely become evident. It is possible their lack of ties to the World Government and Wano’s closed borders are both the result of a historical distrust or animosity their ancestors held towards those who wish to erase the history of the Void Century.
