Watch out, Karim Benzema is in great form. The French striker, who scored 10 goals in 10 days of the championship, is a major contributor to his Al-Ittihad team’s first place in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.
This Tuesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final poster for Al-Hilal vs. Al-Ittihad, and thanks to Benzema’s brace in particular, Laurent Blanc’s side managed to eliminate the two-time champions at home (2-2, 1-3 tab).
The first cup for Benzema.
Benzema opened the scoring on Steven Bergwin’s fine cross with a fine control before setting up Yasin Bounu (0-1, 63rd). Without Neymar, still injured, Al-Hilal equalized through Salem Al-Dawsari (1-1, 72nd), before taking the lead in extra time through Marcos Leonardo (2-1, 102nd): But Benzema had not had his last word and the 2022 Ballon d’Or allowed his team to get back on the scoresheet by once again deceiving Bunu at the near post (2-2, 114th).
