Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the long-awaited return to the Kalos region that countless Pokémon fans have waited years for. Although not much has been revealed since the initial trailer dropped, it is known that the setting is in Lumiose City during a time of urban redevelopment, leading to a lot of potential as to what will be in both the game’s world and the overall narrative. On top of the return of Mega Evolutions, another feature that many players hope will come back is the various rideable Pokémon that can be used to explore the region.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus had numerous rideable Pokémon, with each one serving a completely unique purpose. Ursaluna helps players dig up various hidden items, Sneasler helps them climb steep mountains, and Basculegion makes traveling through water possible. With over a thousand Pokémon available to choose from, there are certain ones that would perfectly fulfill similar roles in Legends: Z-A‘s past version of Kalos.

Luxray
An Incredibly Fast Electric Mount
In the games, Luxray is found in numerous regions across the franchise, including Sinnoh, Kalos, and Paldea. Assuming that Pokémon Legends Z-A will take real-world inspirations into account, then it is highly likely that some Luxray from Paldea could have made their way into this past version of Kalos.
Luxray would primarily be useful as a fast Ride Pokémon to help the player move through the environments faster, much like how Wyrdeer did in Legends: Arceus. Due to Luxray being an Electric-type, it would no doubt be incredibly fast, allowing for larger distances to be completed in a much shorter amount of time. Combined with the fact that Luxray’s appearance looks both awesome and imposing, it would be a fantastic Ride Pokémon for Legends: Z-A.

Pangoro
Using Sheer Strength To Move Obstacles
Pangoro is known to be an incredibly strong and violet Fighting-type Pokémon from the Kalos region. One glance at this giant bear and one can tell that it can easily demolish anything that stands in its path, and that’s precisely what makes it a good candidate for a Ride Pokémon in Legends: Z-A.
Although the mainline games have never depicted a human riding on a Pangoro, Detective Pikachu Returns did actually show Pikachu riding on one during a case. Pangoro’s strength made it possible to move around heavy objects like large containers and boulders, allowing for much easier navigation. In Legends: Z-A, players could potentially utilize Pangoro’s strength to demolish obstacles in their path, or potentially climb massive cliffs with ease.

Mamoswine
Easy Traversal Through Deep Snow
Mamoswine was one of the multiple Pokémon that players could briefly ride on in Pokémon X and Y. This rideable Mamoswine could be found on the snow-filled, mountainous Route 17 that resides between Dendemille Town and Anistar City. Players would be able to ride on Mamoswine’s back so they could easily trek through the incredibly deep snow they couldn’t pass through while on foot, all the while having the Pokémon destroy any massive rocks that happened to block their path.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Was Announced 300 Days Ago – So When Is Another Trailer Coming?
It has been 300 days since the official trailer for Pokémon Legends Z-A was first released and crickets since. When will another trailer be released?
Assuming that Pokémon Legends: Z-A contains a similar snowy environment for players to trek through, then Mamoswine would be a great pick for a Ride Pokémon. It could fulfill a similar purpose as it did in X and Y, helping the player destroy certain obstacles or making journeying through the snowy tundra much easier. Ultimately, only time will tell just how many environments the player will be able to travel through in Legends: Z-A, but Mamoswine’s past history as a Ride Pokémon helps make it a rather strong candidate.

Gyarados
Potential Travel By Both Sea & Air
Gyarados is an iconic and incredibly powerful Pokémon that would fit right in as a Ride Pokémon for multiple reasons. With it being a Water-type, it has the potential to be a very useful Pokémon for water traversal, much like Basculegion. However, Gyarados is also capable of flight despite its lack of wings, meaning that it could also be used by the player to travel through the sky, adding to multiple interesting possibilities.
Considering the fact that Gyarados has the ability to Mega Evolve, then it could potentially allow the player to travel even faster. The Pokédex explains that Mega Gyarados is able to shoot jets of water from its body, allowing it to move at supersonic speeds. This immense speed will be very appealing to many players, considering the sheer size of the game worlds that have been in recent Pokémon titles.

Corviknight
An Impressive Flier & Taxi
On top of having an immensely cool design, Corviknight are well known for their role in the airborne taxi service in the Galar region. These Pokémon are able to fly both humans and monsters around the entire region with relative ease despite their heavy metal bodies.
Although Corviknight is not native to the Kalos region, it is still entirely possible for it to make an appearance in Legends: Z-A. Considering the fact that Galar is based on Great Britain and Kalos is based on France, it can be easy to see how numerous traveling trainers could bring this bird into the region. Considering the sheer size of Lumiose City, Corviknight could serve as a useful Pokémon that the player can use to fly around.
5
Rhyhorn
Helping With Traversal Over Rough Terrain
Rhyhorn Racing is an incredibly popular sport in Kalos, so it makes sense as to why many of them can be found throughout the region. On top of that, however, Rhyhorn is also incredibly useful as it allows the player to move over difficult terrain in Pokémon X and Y. This specific rideable Rhyhorn can be found on Route 9, and it can help the player navigate over incredibly rocky terrain while also destroying boulders that are blocking the path.
Considering the wide variety of terrain that can be found in the Kalos region, along with the fact that many places will likely be under construction, Rhyhorn can help the player better navigate through the environments in Legends: Z-A. Despite its slow movement speed, it would undoubtedly be a very useful companion for the player while they are on their journey through Kalos.
4
Diggersby
Helping Players Find Treasure
The Pokédex explains that Diggersby is capable of digging through even the toughest bedrock, reducing it to mere rubble with ease. Its ears are even strong enough to lift massive boulders without a sweat. It is said to be rather helpful at construction sites, and considering the fact that the trailer reveals that Lumiose City is undergoing urban redevelopment, it is likely that numerous Diggersby will be found throughout the game to help with such a monumental task.

Pokémon Leaker Claims New Main Series Game Other Than Pokémon Legends ZA Coming Out in 2025
Another Pokémon game could be released in 2025, according to a leaker who has correctly made past predictions and posts about the Pokémon franchise.
With its exceptional digging skills, it is easy to see how Diggersby can fulfill the exact same purpose that Ursaluna did in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Diggersby can be used to scour for and dig up various treasures or vital objects for quests that might otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. Combined with the fact that Kalos is Diggersby’s native home region, it only helps to further increase the likelihood of it becoming a future Ride Pokémon.
3
Lapras
A Benevolent Ferry Pokémon
The Pokédex explains that Lapras are very intelligent and gentle creatures that are well known for ferrying people across bodies of water. In Pokémon X and Y, Lapras was available to the player as a Ride Pokémon as long as it was present in their party. This allowed them to actually be shown riding on top of their Pokémon rather than being on the typical large black silhouette that was used in many previous games.
Based on both its Pokédex entries and its role as a useful ride in X and Y, Lapras would be the perfect Pokémon to fulfill the same purpose as Basculegion. The only issue is that it is entirely possible that not many Lapras existed in the wild at this point in Kalos’ history if Legends: Z-A takes place in the past, considering the fact that they have been endangered for so long. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied just how fitting having Lapras once again be a Ride Pokémon would be.
2
Noivern
Useful For Flight & Destroying Obstacles
Noivern is a beloved Generation 6 Pokémon that has primarily captivated fans with both its sheer power and incredible design. It could help serve as a Ride Pokémon in Legends: Z-A by fulfilling the same role as Braviary, helping the player fly around the region and get to places much quicker.
On top of this, Noivern’s impressive ability to create massive sound waves can also prove to be rather useful. It is said that these sonic waves are so powerful that they can reduce boulders to mere rubble. Should the player happen to come across any obstacles that are in their way, then they could have Noivern create a sonic blast to demolish it with ease, making it able to serve multiple purposes at once.

Gogoat
A Pokémon That’s Perfect For Fast Traversal
In the X and Y games, the player has the opportunity to get a tour of Lumiose City while riding on the back of a Gogoat. With this new game taking place in Lumiose City, Gogoat would be absolutely perfect as the first obtainable Ride Pokémon, considering the fact that it could perfectly fulfill the exact same role as Wyrdeer to help the player travel faster. Ultimately, although Gogoat isn’t the strongest Pokémon one could encounter, one cannot deny just how well it fits as a Ride Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Lumiose City is undergoing redevelopment to create a space shared by people and Pokémon. This second entry in the Pokémon Legends sub-franchise builds off the unique catching and exploration mechanics first established in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
