The holidays are behind us, and you might think that the misbehavior of your over-excited grandchildren is a thing of the past.
Time for a reality check
Unfortunately, the tantrum they threw over a toy they didn’t get from Santa, or the food they refused to eat at dinner, or the meltdown at the supermarket because they couldn’t enjoy themselves, will carry right into the new year.
The reality is that sometimes kids are being naughty on purpose, and putting your foot down can turn them around, especially if their parents rarely do it.
Other times we put our grandchildren in fun situations that end up being miserable. A trip to the theme park, a visit with cousins, or a meal at a restaurant can lead to overstimulation and ultimately disgusting misbehavior.
There is still hope for order
Whatever the reason, it’s important for your sanity to be able to bring the kids back to normal when a meltdown occurs.Although it’s probably not your job to restore order all the time, sometimes you may be the only adult doing the job.
Here are some techniques you can try the next time your sweet grandchild turns into a little monster:
Keep calm
If they yell, don’t start yelling. Refusing to react or get involved in their anger is important.
Meet the child’s basic needs
Water, a snack, or a nap can nip the problem in the bud, so try this right away.
Remove the child from the situation
If you are in a public place or with a group, you may need to take your grandchild to another area. :
Not only will this help the child, but it will also allow all the other diners to enjoy their meal. No one wants to be around a screaming child.
Get comfortable
If you’re at home, bring the baby into the bedroom and snuggle up. Dim the lights, find a book and start looking at the pictures.
These techniques may seem like common sense, but keeping them in mind can help prevent a small hiccup from turning into a full-blown storm. save you got this
