Daniel Funeriu, who announced that he will run as an independent candidate in the May presidential elections, removed on Saturday the possibility of withdrawing from the electoral race and expressed his desire to face the mayor of the capital, Nicuşor Dan, in the second round of voting, reports Agerpres.
“We rule out any withdrawal negotiations for I don’t know what position. I rule out this. We rule out any withdrawal negotiations. I will go as far as this candidacy. Because, as I said, I think it’s time to put on the table the big problems of Romania and to find solutions to these problems. We exclude any withdrawal for any other position. I exclude, (…) to submit these ideas to public life, to submit them to the electorate,” said Daniel Funeriu in a broadcast on Digi 24.
He asked Romania’s Constitutional Court to let all candidates who “don’t have a court decision” run, because Romania’s president must have “democratic legitimacy.”
“You cannot be president at the green table, since Kosovo wanted to beat Romania in football. The president, to lead the country, must have democratic legitimacy. And the votes that Georgescu took (…) are why not had no serious competition,” said Funeriu.
That will be their slogan
Daniel Funeriu defined himself as a sovereignist candidate, in the spirit of the Constitution, and spoke against “faulty systems” and for “correct systems”.
He claims that the “solutions” he proposes differentiate Călin Georgescu.
“Solutions, on the one hand, and you will see my program and the people who are close to me, and something else essentially differentiates me – I am, without a doubt, an Atlanticist NATO, the European Union and my slogan will be and is” “Fin à poente”. Something else distinguishes me, not only from Mr. Georgescu, but, in my opinion, also from the other candidates: the budget. What they did in public life”, added Funeriu.
As for the general mayor of the Capital, Nicusor Dan, who has also expressed his intention to run for the presidency, Funeriu said that he wants a final with him.
“I have known Nicuşor Dan since 1987, when he was in the mathematics group (Olympics – no), he was in the chemistry group. (…) We met in the fields. (…) It is an electoral competition in which present to the Romans, as I said, with everyone’s balance, with everyone’s personality, with everyone’s team, with everyone’s project, and the electorate will decide. My goal is to reduce a chances of other candidates to win the Presidency of Romania to zero. (…) Every candidate is free to join, to start a discussion to join my candidacy. I am ready to have discussions with any other candidates who are in the my project,” said the former Minister of Education.
Who is he in the team?
He specified that he has a project, a “remarkable” team and that his funds for the electoral campaign will be known even in the electoral race.
“If the parties come up with a government in which there are people of the quality of those who have joined me in this effort, Romania would do very well. Let me give some examples: on Justice – Mr. Agustin Zegrean, elder president of the Constitutional Court, on everything that means economy-taxes – Mr. Gabriel Biriş, health, an essential field, Radu Lupescu,” said Funeriu.
On Crin Antonescu, the candidate of the current parliamentary majority, Daniel Funeriu believes “that this coalition does not want to win the presidential election by appointing Antonescu”.
“Antonescu is a man of his words, but a country is not governed by words. And by the way, it would be good to have the words in other languages of international circulation. I saw that he really does not have them,” he said funeral
