Warning: SPOILERS for Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1When Elektra first took on the mantle of Daredevil in Matt Murdock’s absence, she had much to prove: not just her ability to be a hero, but her ability to be Daredevil. Matt’s greatest advantage in the fight to protect Hell’s Kitchen is his super-human senses. While Elektra is well-trained, her human senses can’t compare to Matt’s. However, Elektra does have a hellish sixth sense that Matt could never use.
Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1 by Erica Schultz, Valentina Pinti, and José Luís is a surprising supernatural thriller that follows the freshly christened Daredevil, Elektra Natchios. As a demonically artistic new threat boils in the depths of Hell, Daredevil has taken to her new life of non-lethal justice.
Without Matt Murdock’s super senses, she’s at a disadvantage as the newest Daredevil. However, Elektra has spent her own time in Hell, permanently searing her spiritual senses into her mind in a way that she will never forget. This Daredevil doesn’t need super hearing, smell, or touch, because she can sense the devilish evil that has long infected Hell’s Kitchen.
Elektra’s Daredevil Possesses a Hellish Sixth Sense
Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1 by Erica Schultz, Valentina Pinti, José Luís, Jonas Trindade, Dee Cunniffe, and Cory Petit
As Elektra continues to uphold her promise to be the hero of Hell’s Kitchen, forgoing her past as a violent assassin, she struggles to balance her horrific past while embracing a future of hope. After being caught in an all-consuming explosion while shutting down a drug operation, she forces herself to take time to recover. While meditating, Elektra recalls something curious that Stick once told her about Hell’s Kitchen. Underneath the concrete and subways, the Manhattan neighborhood sits on top of a spiritual ley line. He said that the veil between Hell and Earth is the thinnest in Hell’s Kitchen.
Knowing that she lacks Matt’s physiological senses, Elektra realizes that she possesses a spiritual sense.
Elektra has seen Hell more than a few times. As any of Marvel’s other hellish heroes could attest, Hell leaves an infernal mark that isn’t easily removed. Once someone has been marked by Hell, it becomes easier to see the mark on others. The smell, the taste, and the pure evil that emanates from Hell are incomparable. Knowing that she lacks Matt’s physiological senses, Elektra realizes that she possesses a spiritual sense. By focusing on the “bits of Hell that do seep up from the cracks,” she can use the evil in her enemies’ souls to supplement her physical senses.
Daredevil Must Depend On Her Supernatural Sense to Stop Her Latest Enemy
The Hellish Artist Muse Returns
Unfortunately, this Daredevil’s new threat is overwhelmingly more hellish than she. Locked in the depths of infernal torment, the gruesomely deranged artist Muse plans to create an art piece so disgustingly profane that even the Devil would notice. As Muse corrupts and collects souls from Hell’s Kitchen to add to his wretched art, the hellish stink his spirit leaves behind should be easily found with Elektra’s spiritual senses. Elektra may actually be the only Daredevil who can permanently defeat Muse. When Matt last faced the killer artist, his senses were warped and nullified by Muse’s unique body.
