The rescuers of Maramureş intervened, Friday evening, for the recovery of a Ukrainian citizen who crossed the border. He has been on the road for six days and has asked for support stating that he has no supplies, no change of clothes and no possibility to warm up, reports News.ro.
After an action that lasted almost four hours, mountain rescuers from Maramureş reached the 50-year-old man from Ukraine who crossed the border into Romania through the mountains.
“He was handed over to the medical team that came to support him, because he was hypothermic and had chest pains. He told the rescuers that he had been in the mountains for five nights, that he had been away from home for six days, and that He did not imagine for a moment what awaited him in this adventure. He kept repeating that he was happy to be alive, that he was happy to be saved, and he did not know more thanks when we offered them hot tea, sandwiches and protein bars”, said representatives of Salvamont Maramureş. .
The 50-year-old man crossed the border from Ukraine to Romania through the mountains. After six days on the road, he called 112.
“He said that he is on the road for six days without supplies, without a change of clothes, he is cold, he has no possibility to make a fire and he is asking for emergency help. The colleagues of STS Maramureş managed to locate him and were able to from us the coordinates where Ukraine was located,” informs Salvamont Maramureş.
A first response team from Salvamont Maramureş is participating in the recovery action, which will make the junction with the Border Police team from Poienile de sub Munte.
The paramedics of ISU Maramureş are ready to intervene at the base of the mountain, if the person needs medical assistance.
“The action will last several hours. On the mountain, the snow exceeds half a meter, now it is snowing and the temperature has dropped to -6 -8 degrees and at night temperatures up to -11 -13 degrees are announced, so the action will take place against a timer so as not to expose too much the Ukrainian citizen against the adverse conditions in the mountain,” said the mountain rescuers.
