One of the largest supermarket chains in Great Britain, Sainsbury’s, has announced that it will cut 3,000 jobs after the closure of its remaining cafes and its pastry and pizza counters, writes the BBC.
The supermarket says the move will “simplify business”, adding that most Sainsbury’s shoppers “don’t buy regular coffees”.
Sainsbury’s also planned to cut 20% of senior roles, saying the business was facing a “particularly challenging cost environment”.
This is the second wave of major redundancies for Sainsbury’s in just one year. In February of last year, he announced that 1,500 jobs would disappear.
