There are few characters more terrifying and horrific than the Joker, which is why it’s so surprising that so many women have fallen in love with him over the years – including one Justice League member. While it might be understandable that criminals like Harley Quinn or Punchline could fall for the Clown Prince of Crime, it’s a lot more shocking that Black Canary almost seemed interested.
The Joker has done a lot of crazy things, but flirting with Green Arrow’s long-time lover is certainly an insane feat. During the events of The Joker #4 by Elliot S. Maggin and José Luis García-López, the Joker admits that since the moment he met Dinah Lance, he hasn’t been able to think about anything except her. He outright says that he loves her, and he must either marry her or kill her.
While the Joker becoming obsessed with someone isn’t exactly new – the Joker’s been obsessed with Batman for decades – what’s surprising is that Black Canary seems a little interested. The Joker, in full disguise as a man named Harry, stops by Dinah Lance’s flower shop and flirts with her. While Dinah has no idea that it’s the Joker, that it seems to work at all is pretty concerning.
The Joker Was Once Very Interested in Beloved Justice League Member, Black Canary
1975’s The Joker #4 by Elliot S. Maggin, José Luis García-López, and Vince Colletta
The Joker has had many love interests over the years, including, famously, Harley Quinn. Other women have fallen for the Clown Prince of Crime over the years, the most recent being Punchline. The Joker clearly has something about him that women find attractive, and it seems that Black Canary agrees. It’s important to remember that Black Canary has no idea that she is being flirted with by the Joker, but his words clearly have an effect, as she defends him to Green Arrow later, when Oliver is infuriated that another man flirted with her.

Punchline, on the other hand, is inspired by the Joker’s views on society and the world, and she eventually falls in love with him due to his philosophy.
